About ML Furniture Studio

ML Furniture Studio specializes in wooden custom made furniture. We also take a hand in renovating kitchens, bathrooms, anywhere we can build something out of wood.

The business is owned and operated by Michael in the Edmonton, Alberta area.
After completing high school, he pursued his interest in learning about furniture construction by enrolling in NAIT’s Millwork and Carpentry Program, where he graduated with honours. Drawn to the construction challenges offered in quality heirloom furniture, Mike chose to take the Advanced Woodworking and Furniture Design Program. Upon completion of the furniture course, Michael built his own woodworking shop in his grandfather’s old chicken barn.

Michael’s furniture design is influenced by many styles and artists. Merged in his pieces are the unique designs of Period furniture and the smooth lines and complex joinery of Greene and Greene. The curves that flow through his chairs, rockers and tables are inspired by the artist Sam Maloof, another favourite. Contrasts of wood colours and veneer patterns are also typically found in Mike’s work. His objective is that his customers may enjoy using his furniture as much as he enjoys building it.

Michael’s experience attracted NAIT to hire him as a part-time technician in the Cabinet making and Carpentry Programs. He
also was an aide for a blind student enrolled in the Advanced Woodworking and Furniture Design program. Michael is currently working full time designing and building furniture. Some of his pieces have been shown and sold through galleries in Edmonton, Alberta.

Michael has since built a new building for his shop and keeps working away, with the help of his wife, Andrea.
